CAMDEN — For the third straight year, The King’s Academy sporting clays teams captured the SCISA state championship with a win Saturday at Hermitage Farms.

TKA’s A-squad of Austin Mogy, Richmond Wilhoit and Braxton Ivey combined for a score of 263 to earn the title.

Mogy and Wilhoit tied individually with a score of 91, and Mogy earned the highest overall shooter award in a shootout.

The Lions’ B-squad shot a 205.

The win advances TKA to its third straight national tournament in Sparta, Ill., on July 23-24.

The Lions have won the previous two.

“The competition has gotten better every year, but my guys have improved as well,” TKA coach Matt Terrio said. “To compete and win against teams made up of mainly private clubs is a testament to how much work these guys put into their sport.”

Mike Fanning, the SCISA athletic director, also presented Terrio with the coach of the year award.

“I just want to thank Mike, my assistant Ken Ivey and all the parents who have allowed me to coach these young men,” Terrio said. “Without them, this wouldn’t have been possible.”

TKA A-squad
Austin Mogy 91; Richmond Wilhoit 91; Braxton Ivey 81 — 263
TKA B-squad
Robert Baumgardner 80; Harrison Boatwright 74; Clint Mims 51 — 205
