Seasiders oust FMU women

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Despite putting up a valiant effort, seventh-ranked Francis Marion fell to top-ranked and unbeaten BYU-Hawaii 5-1, Wednesday in Sweet 16 action at the Division II Women’s Tennis Championships.
Francis Marion ends its season at 20-5. The Patriots, who lose no seniors off this year’s roster, were making their second consecutive Sweet 16appearance.
The Seasiders (27-0) opened up the afternoon with three-straight victories in doubles. The first slot combo of Elwen Li and Yuan Jia, the top-ranked doubles team in Division II, picked up a hard-fought 8-3 decision over the sixth-ranked duo of Jitka Gavdunova and Kristyna Horakova.
FMU’s lone win came at No.5 singles when Baberadova, a sophomore, picked up a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Ikeda.
