FLORENCE — The Florence Phantoms might have added the final piece for a successful American Indoor Football Association championship defense.
On Thursday, the team re-signed quarterback and reigning league MVP Omar Jacobs for the rest of the season.
“We’re obviously ecstatic to have him back,” Florence vice president of player operations Bennie King said. “We have struggled offensively over the first two games, and he brings the component we were missing.”
Jacobs first year in the AIFA was a resounding success as he led the Phantoms to a 13-4 record and a AIFA Bowl II rout of Western Conference-champion Wyoming, 48-12.
Jacobs finished the campaign as the top rated passer in the AIFA and led an explosive offense to ten straight victories.
