HEMINGWAY - Carvers Bay’s Girls Varsity Softball Team got off to a good start this season, winning the Latta Pre-Season Tournament, then putting up wins against Hemingway, Lake City and Lake View. March 10 matched up Carvers Bay and Hemingway, with Caroline Avant taking the win for the Lady Bears, 13 – 2. She pitched five innings, giving up only two hits and one walk; issuing eight strike-outs. Angela Palmer and Toni Cribb each went 2/3 at the plate and each scored twice. Shay Munnerlyn went 2/4, scoring twice.
Lake City was handed a loss on March 12, with Avant again taking the win 16 – 1; striking out eight batters and giving up no hits. Whitney Baxley went 4/5 at the plate, scoring twice; with two triples, one double and four RBIs. Macey Owens went 2/3, with three RBIs.
Carvers Bay pulled out a close one on March 13, defeating Lake View 4 – 3. Avant pitched seven innings, giving up two earned runs on seven hits; striking out seven and issuing no BBs. Whitney Baxley had a two-run homer in the third inning; Toni Cribb was 2/3, scoring a run; Carsen Cagle was 2/4 with one RBI and scoring once.
Marion High School momentarily cooled the Lady Bears’ hot streak with a 2-6 win in Marion Wednesday night. Avant took the loss for Carvers Bay, pitching seven innings, giving up six runs off five hits; striking out two and walking three batters. Ariel Graham had the only RBIs for CB, bringing in two runs. Shay Munnerlyn, Carsen Cagle, and Toni Cribb each had one hit. The Lady Bears’ record goes to 6 – 3 overall; 2 – 0 in the conference. Carvers Bay will host Johnsonville, Thursday, March 26 at 5:30 pm.
