The varsity boys’ soccer team is in the middle of a three-game win streak after defeating the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics 3-1 Monday night.
Prior to Monday they defeated Marlboro County on Wednesday, March 18, and then defeated West Florence on Friday, March 20.
On Monday, the Foxes defeated the GSSM thanks to two goals from Wes Regan and one from Kyler Gartner. Regan’s first goal was assisted by Gartner, and the second was unassisted. Gartner’s goal was assisted by Wil Atkinson.
On Friday, March 20, the Foxes defeated West Florence 3-0.
“West Florence pressured our defense all night,” Hartsville head coach Troy Alexander said, “but we weathered the storm and came out with a great win.” Three different Foxes scored during the game for Hartsville. Regan scored in the 20th minute assisted by Gartner to give the Foxes a 1-0 lead. Then, Gartner scored in the 43rd minute assisted by Dalton Hall to give the Foxes a 2-0 lead.
To add icing to the cake, Caston Jeffords scored the final goal in the 70th minute assisted by Gartner.
The win marked the first time Hartsville has beaten West Florence in seven years, Alexander said.
On Wednesday, March 18, Hartsville cruised to a 5-1 victory over Marlboro County.
Both Gartner and Regan had two goals apiece. Atkinson also had an unassisted goal.
Alexander said the game against West Florence was a huge test for the team.
Hartsville now has a 4-1 record on the season.
They faced Carolina Forest Tuesday night and will travel to Conway Tuesday, March 31, to face the Tigers at 7:30 p.m.
