Mack's homer lifts USC to rivalry win

CLEMSON — DeAngelo Mack hit a tiebreaking solo home run in the ninth to lead South Carolina to a 3-1 win over Clemson on Saturday.
The Gamecocks (4-0) have won five in a row and eight of the last nine against the in-state rival Tigers (4-1). The teams will play Sunday afternoon in Columbia.
South Carolina pounded out nine hits, but left five men on base through eight innings and only managed a run on Jeffery Jones’ first inning double.
Clemson tied the game at 1 in the sixth on Matt Sanders home run. The Tigers had only two hits.
Gamecocks reliever Alex Farotto (1-0) picked up the win, allowing no hits, walking one and striking out two in 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
Tigers reliever Graham Stoneburner (0-1) allowed three hits and two runs in an inning to get the loss.
