Coastal's Gagg signed by Mets

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Bobby Gagg had a roller coaster career at CCU with plenty of dips, including a semester long suspension, an ejection from the Super Regionals, and the disappointment of not getting drafted, twice. But the former Chanticleer seems to have ended up on top.

The Chanticleer pitcher from New Jersey has signed a free-agent contract with the New York Mets, it was announced recently.

Gagg was not drafted after his junior season, then ran into academic issues and was suspended from school for the first semester of his senior year. But the NCAA allowed him to play his senior season.

Gagg had a 4-4 record with a 5.35 earned-run average and five saves in 18 appearances for the Chanticleers in 2009. Gagg had 40 strikeouts on the year and combined on a shutout in a 1-0 win over Creighton. The senior ended his collegiate career with 26 wins, which is tied for sixth in Coastal Carolina history. He earned the save in the Big South Tournament championship game over Winthrop this season, while striking out five in seven innings in a win over The Citadel March 4.

But Gagg was not drafted after his senior year either.

Gagg was the Big South Pitcher of the Year in 2007 as well as being a Second Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.
