CONWAY — Charlie Abbott tossed seven shutout innings and Cody Ritch belted a grand slam to lead Florence Post 1 over Conway 9-2 in American Legion baseball on Thursday.
In his seven innings, Abbott (2-1) gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out five.
Ritch’s grand slam — his third homer in two nights and fifth of the season — came during a seven-run eighth inning that gave Post 1 a 9-0 lead.
Ritch’s blast was part of a 3-for-5 night for him that also included a double.
Post 1’s other three runs in the eighth came on a three-run double from Dustin Britt.
Post 1, now 7-3 overall and 5-0 in League II, will play Georgetown in Pawley’s Island tonight at 7.
That game was originally scheduled to be played at West Florence High School but has been moved to Pawley’s Island because West’s field is unplayable due to heavy rain this week.
Post 1 will host Georgetown at West Florence on July 7 in a game that was originally scheduled to be played at Georgetown.
