WILMINGTON, N.C. — Wilmington’s J.C. Casey and Chris Powell combined on a one-hit shutout in an 8-0 Coastal Plain league win over the Florence RedWolves on Thursday night.
Casey (2-0) worked eight innings, gave up the hit, walked four and struck out nine.
Brad Raj had Florence’s hit.
“(Casey) came right at our hitters with his fastball and we were late (swinging),” said Florence coach Wes Davis. “We just weren’t ready to hit.”
Wilmington’s Adam Eggemeyer was 2-for-3 with his fourth homer of the season and three RBI. It’s the second straight night and third time this season Eggemeyer has gone yard against the RedWolves.
After opening the season 5-0, the RedWolves fall to 7-7. They’re tied with Wilmington for third place in the CPL South standings, a game behind Fayetteville and Wilson who are tied for first.
