Pelicans split with Nationals

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — The Myrtle Beach Pelicans split a doubleheader with Potomac on Saturday, holding on to win the first game 7-6 before dropping the second game 5-3.
In the first game, the Pelicans scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 7-2 lead. They needed every run as the Nationals scored four in the bottom half of the inning before Myrtle Beach shut the door.
Cody Johnson hit his 18th homer of the year and collected two RBI as did Chad Lundahl.
Lee Hyde got the win for the Pelicans after tossing 1 1/3 innings in relief and allowing one run on one hit.
Michael Mehlich picked up a one-out save.
In game two, Jose Ortegano was charged with the loss after allowing a run on two hits in 2 1/3 innings.
Frederick Freeman and Benji Johnson picked up the two RBI for the Pelicans. C.J. Lee and Jon Owings each collected two hits in the loss.
Tim Pahuta homered and drove in two for Potomac.
