Trucks steal show at Speedway

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Another great night of racing occurred at the Dillon Motor Speedway this past Saturday night with the running of the ASA Southern Modifieds.

Race fans watched unique cars on wide tires circulate around the track with qualifying lap times of approximately 15 seconds per car.

Local racers from the Super Trucks, Street Stocks, and East Coast Ford Flatheads also made their way back to the track. Along with the enthusiasm and great entertainment that these local teams bring every week, the teams also brought much suspense and competition that occurs each week at the Speedway.

The event featured a fan walk and autograph session with the drivers from the ASA Modifieds and all of the classes.

Racing began with a fierce battle between the Street Stock Cars.

Randy Hall cruised into victory lane after winning the race. However, Chris Peele was not far away. Peele crossed the DMS finish line settling in a competitive second place finish, followed by Chris Powers, who finished in a respectable third place.

Chad Lockamy and Reece Tadlock were also big contenders and rounded out the top five.

The East Coast Ford Flatheads soared around DMS to put on a great show for the fans. Johnny Johnson took home the first-place modified trophy. James Royals put up a great fight to the finish to win the sportsman trophy, followed by Kenneth Tuttle, Rhonda McKnight, and Jim Brock, who all finished out the top five.

The roaring engines from the field of sixteen Super Trucks echoed throughout the raceway during the following event.

A strong 50-lap battle occurred with Joe Heigl, being the first Super Truck to cross the finish line at the end of the night. Heigl has had much success at Dillon Motor Speedway this year, and the victory added to his many accomplishments at the track. Hartsville’s Todd Kelley raced strongly through the field of cars to finish in a close second place, followed by Grant Davidson who finished in third place.

Archie Adams, Jr. and Michael Cooper also had success at the track finishing in the top five.

The 75-lap feature event of the ASA Southern Modifieds was action-packed racing at its best with numerous lead changes.

Danny Bohn scored his first Dillon Motor Speedway victory. Scott Rigney finished in second place followed by Darrell Krentz.
