Maple Park Majors, Minors get opening-round victories

FLORENCEWilliam Goodwin drove in five runs with a single and a double to lead Maple Park to a 10-0 win over Laurens in the opening round of the Dixie Youth Baseball Majors state tournament, on Saturday at Freedom Florence.

In addition to Goodwin, Matthew Thomas and Mason Park each had two hits for Maple Park. Right-handed starter Adam Martin and two relievers combined on the one-hit shutout.

Jakayious Williams hit a one-out double for Laurens in the fifth inning. Pee Wee Wilson was the losing pitcher.

Midland 9, McLeod Park 8
Hunter Logan homered and doubled, scored three times and drove in five runs to lead Midland to a win over McLeod Park.

Austin Price went 2-for-3 and scored twice for Midland. Tyler Baker started and got the win for Midland while Grant Petrey survived a two-run homer by McLeod Park’s Grayson Cottingham in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn the save.

Austin Drummond hit a three-run homer for McLeod Park and Steven Calcutt connected on a long two-run shot. Calcutt was the losing pitcher.

Hartsville National 11, Parks Field American 5
Rayshawn Coe hit a two-run homer and Chandler Melton stroked a two-run single to highlight a six-run final inning for Hartsville National in a victory over Parks Field American.

Harrison Hawkins and Worth Burch both had three hits apiece for Hartsville National while Coe finished the game with four RBI and Cody Kelley drove in three runs and had two hits. Burch got the win in relief while Darran Jones was the losing pitcher.

Matty Powell drilled a three-run homer to give Parks Field American a 4-3 lead in the third inning. Kenny Frank had a pair of hits and scored once.

Gregg Park 17, Hampton/Varnville 1
Brandyn Quiller and Aaron O’Neil rapped out three hits each and combined to drive in seven runs to lead Gregg Park to a win over Hampton/Varnville.

Qullier, who drove in four runs, also pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win. O’Neil homered and drove in three while Hunter Groomes homered and had three RBI.

Eric Mulligan Jr. drove in Hampton/Varnville’s lone run with a sacrifice fly, plating Mitchell Bridgers who had doubled. Right-hander Austin Terry was the losing pitcher for Hampton/Varnville.

Surfside Beach 25, York Central 1
Surfside Beach scored 15 runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a win over York Central.

Leadoff batter Trevor Bigham homered twice, scored four times and drove in four runs to lead Surfside Beach. Devin Melko had three hits, including a double and a homer, and plated four runs while Buck Bacot and Finn Melko both hit solo home runs. Bigham was the winning pitcher.

Ryan Gilbert scored York Central’s lone run, while Hunter Horne, Weston Sandifer and Hamilton McGarity each had a hit. Gilbert was the losing pitcher.

Lake Marion 6, Walhalla 2

Wyatt Rucker hit a two-run homer in the first inning and a three-run blast in the third to carry Lake Marion to a win over Walhalla.

Michael Pascoe accounted for Lake Marion’s other run, scoring on an error in the fifth inning. Charlie Carpenter was the winning pitcher with two hitless innings.

David Medlin had a hit and scored once for Walhalla. He pitched a complete game, striking out 12, but was tagged with the loss.

MINORS
Maple Park 9, Seneca 4

Zyier Turner, Tyler Davis, Djuan Scudder and Harrison Crouch each had two hits apiece to lead Maple Park to a win over Seneca.

Trailing 3-2 entering the fourth inning, Maple Park scored twice in the frame and five times in the sixth inning. Benj Jones was the winning pitcher.

CJ Wilson rapped out a pair of hits for Seneca, including an RBI double. Jake Donald was the losing pitcher.

North Myrtle Beach 5, Dillon 4
Garrison Gause capped a two-out, five-run rally in the bottom of the last inning with a two-run single to lift North Myrtle Beach to an improbable victory over Dillon.

North Myrtle Beach trailed 4-0 with two outs, but put together five straight hits to pull out the win. Donald Hansis had two hits, including a double, for NMB. Gause also pitched the final two innings and got the win.

Thadeous Barnes had a pair of run-scoring singles for Dillon while Nicholas Smith had an RBI-single and scored twice. Ray McGirt pitched a complete game with five strikeouts in the losing effort.

Pineview 15, Bishopville 5

Pineview scored nine runs in the second inning and went on to a big win over Bishopville.

Austin Linebrink had a pair of hits and two runs batted in to lead Pineview while Ryan Harbin drilled a two-run homer and Cange Cribb had an RBI double. Linebrink was the winning pitcher.

Nicholas Stokes was 2-for-2 to lead Bishopville.

Parks Field American 6, Rock Hill National 5
Johnathan Watts drove in the winning run with a two-out double as Parks Field American rallied for a victory over Rock Hill National.

Parks Field American trailed 5-1 entering its last at bat, but scored five times to get the win. Olin McCurry was 2-for-3, including an RBI in the rally, to lead Parks Field American. McCurry was also the winning pitcher.

Wes Bostic had an RBI double for Rock Hill National while Daniel Lipe had an RBI single. Jeff Taylor was the losing pitcher.

Sumter American 10, Gregg Park 0
Preston Lilze had two hits, scored twice and drove in four runs to lead Sumter American to a victory over Gregg Park.

Ryan Touchberry was the winning pitcher as Sumter American hurlers limited Gregg Park to one hit, a lead-off double by Maddison Hammons in the fourth inning.

Jordan Holladay also had two hits, scored twice, and drove in one run for Sumter American.

Nick Clary was the losing pitcher.

Mid Carolina 8, Hilton Head American 4
Mid Carolina snapped a 3-3 deadlock by scoring five times in the bottom of the fourth inning and went on to a win over Hilton Head American.

Trey Kinard was 2-for-3 with a run scored to pace the Mid Carolina attack. Leadoff batter Jhi Wright reached base three times and scored twice while Cade Ruff and Preston Farmer delivered RBI doubles.
Kinard was also the winning pitcher.

Tracy Julian led Hilton Head American with three hits and a run scored while James Bartholomew drove in two runs with a double and a fielder’s choice. Both Carmen Majinski and Collin Kaison had two hits apiece. Cameron Blackshear was the losing pitcher.
