CPL All-Star Game ends in tie

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The National All-Stars and American All-Stars played to a 2-2 tie in 10 innings in the Coastal Plain League All-Star Game at Buck Hardee Field on Tuesday night.

The National squad took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a run-scoring single from Outer Banks’ Dylan Petrich.

The American team tied it 1-1 in the seventh when Asheboro’s Thomas Pope singled to right and later scored on an error.

Edenton’s Gerard Hall belted a solo homer in the top of the eighth to push the National team to a 2-1 lead.

The American squad tied it 2-2 on an infield RBI single from Peninsula’s Jake McAloose in the bottom of the eighth.

Florence outfielder Sam DiMatteo was 0-for-2 for the National team. John Taylor, who started on the mound for the National team, tossed a scoreless inning with a walk. Stephen McCray also pitched a scoreless inning. He gave up a hit, walked one and struck out two.

Florence’s Barrett Kleinknecht started at shortstop for the American team and also pitched a scoreless 10th. He was 0-for-2 at the plate. On the mound, he gave up a hit, walked one and struck out one.

Florence’s Herman Petzold started at second base for the American squad and was 0-for-2.
