FLORENCE — After a back-and-forth first quarter against Crestwood on Friday, the Wilson Tigers looked to gain the upper hand to start the second.

Trevonte Dixon’s 3-pointer gave them a spark, and Alan-Michael Thompson’s alley-oop dunk helped them catch fire.

Thompson scored 24 points, and Wilson outscored Crestwood 23-9 in the second en route to a 76-48 win.

“We got some charges, we got some stops and we got out in transition,” Wilson coach Bob Wilson said. “That’s always a big key for us.”

The Tigers scored five of the first six points in the second quarter for a 17-9 lead. Thompson’s dunk ignited the crowd, and started an 8-1 run by Wilson (15-2, 2-1).

“The crowd got a little rowdy, and that makes us get a little rowdy,” Thompson said. “We feed off that and the guys went out and played even harder.”

“It’s definitely something you can build momentum with,” Wilson said.

Thompson had three dunks in the game and was one of three Wilson players in double figures.

Shahmel Brackett finished with 17 in his first game back from a quad injury. Bracket missed the last two games, including Tuesday’s loss to Camden.

“Even the points in some ways aren’t as important as him handling the ball,” Wilson said. “He made some really nice feeds to our post players early on and he does such a good job of breaking down the defense.”

Trevonte Dixon added 14 points for the Tigers.

The Knights had a rough shooting night, especially in the first half. Crestwood made more free throws (9) than shots from the floor (4) in the first half.

“We got hurt in transition a little bit, but when we did get stops, we couldn’t make shots,” Crestwood coach Dwayne Edwards said. “They’re big players hurt us and we just didn’t have an answer tonight.”

Crestwood started out the third quarter on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 35-23. Wilson called timeout to refocus his players.

“He just told us not to rush anything and play like we knew how to play, especially defensively.” Thompson said.

Wilson answered with 17 straight points to take a 52-23 lead.

Kevin Bennett scored 14 points for the Knights (10-6, 0-3), the only player to reach double figures.

Wilson travels to Marlboro County on Tuesday.

The Tigers closed out the first quarter on a 13-1 run en route to a double-digit halftime lead.

Wilson connected on six 3-pointers, all in the first half, led by Brittany McIver and Brienna Taylor with two each.

McIver led all scorers with 17 points followed by Taylor with 16. Tish White scored 14 to give the Tigers (14-2, 3-0) three players in double figures.

Terrika Mack was the lone Knight in double digits with 14. Mack’s back-to-back 3-pointers in the second quarter cut the Wilson lead to 10, the closest the Knights got the rest of the night.
