KINGSTREE — The Mullins boys basketball is headed back to the Class 2A lower state finals.
The Auctioneers used a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter on their way to a win Wednesday night over Kingstree 76-65.
Mullins will face Wade Hampton on Saturday at a site to be determined. It’s the second straight year the Aucs have advanced to the lower state final.
Mullins lost to Burke 64-62 in last year’s lower state title game.
“We have been hearing every day about we were going to go back there,” Mullins coach Mark Gerald said. “I’m proud of the way we prepared and didn’t overlook anyone.”
Eric Smith led the way for Mullins with 27 points and eight assists. Smith was a catalyst in the fourth quarter run, which broke up a close game.
Mullins (24-3) led just 37-35 at halftime.
Stacy Wilson chipped in with 18 points for the Aucs.
“I am pleased with victory. We had a lot of kids coming down with colds. I am very proud of our team to get a win in a hostile enviroment,” Gerald said.
Rashad Murphy led the Jaguars with 25 points and Garrett Wilson added 18.
