The Carolina Academy girls varsity tennis team was recently honored in Columbia by the state House of Representatives.
State Rep. Lester P. Branham of Lake City presented to the team a resolution that was adopted by the representatives to honor the team for winning the South Carolina Independent Schools Association (SCISA) state tennis championship.
The team was recognized for remaining undefeated with 17 wins throughout the entire 2008 season, including the playoffs.
The following individual players who remained undefeated in singles play throughout the season and the playoffs were recognized: team captain Ali Courtney, Taylor Osborne, Rebecca Weaver and Tori Osborne.
Captain Lauren Reddeck, Sonovia Bradshaw and Ali Courtney were honored for being selected to the all-region team.
Reddeck, the team’s number one singles player, also was recognized for being selected to the all-state team and for being named the SCISA state player of the year.
Coach Jenny Johnson was honored for being the SCISA state coach of the year.
The girls were introduced to the state House members and guests and stood at the front of the House chamber as Branham presented each team member with a copy of the resolution.
