1. Marion takes home the annual A&J Grant Holiday Tournament, knocking off Lamar. The tourney event is always a great show and props to MVP Deonte Johnson.
2. Speaking of great show, Creek Bridge shooting guard Rakeem Williams shined with a 29-point performance against Marion in the opening round of the tournament. Williams dropped 19 points in a loss to Latta in the consolation game.
3. Latta has a pretty strong team this season and have been a tough opponent for Marion County teams, owning wins over Marion and Mullins on their home floors. The Vikings will face the Swamp Foxes at home on Jan. 5.
4. Marion Lady Swamp Foxes won the Lake City Invitational this past week. Geneika Brantley scored 18 points in a 60-57 win over Lake City.
5. Jessica Grant added 12 points in the championship game along with 10 points from Tyshanna Lester and nine points from Amber Timmons.
6. Foxes freshmen center Marqui McKelvey registered 13 points and 11 rebounds along with five blocks in the tournament championship game against Lamar. McKelvey is bright newcomer that adds valuable production to the squad.
7. Swamp Fox shooting guard Justin Gause was named to the All-Tournament Team, finishing with 16 points in the final. Warriors shooting guard Rakeem Williams also made the team.
8. Jan. 4 and Jan. 5 Creek Bridge goes on the road against Aynor before facing region foe Hemingway in the first of three straight road games.
9. Mullins will also travel to face Latta on Jan. 6.
10. This week the Mullins Auctioneers participate in the Pepsi Carolina Classic. On Monday the Aucs took on Dillon the first day of the tournament. Winner of that game played Hemingway Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The championship game will be Thursday at 7 p.m.
