The Lake City High School Lady Panthers, after a loss to Marion in the Lake City High Holiday Tournament, will return to action Jan. 5, when they will travel to Bishopville to take on Lee Central.
They also will face Calhoun County in St. Matthews on Jan. 9.
The Lady Panthers got 20 points from Shanice Cooper and 14 from Kourtney McFadden, but it wasn’t enough to get by Marion in the championship game of the Lake City High Holiday Tournament on Dec. 23. The Lady Foxes edged the Lady Panthers 60-57 to take the tournament title.
Lake City trailed by as much as 11 points and found themselves down by eight with 1:31 remaining in the game. A full-court pressure defense caused Marion turnovers late in the game that allowed the Lady Panthers to claw their way back into the game.
With less than six seconds left in the game, Cooper rebounded a missed Marion shot and got past half-court before launching a desperation shot that would have sent the game into overtime. The shot missed the mark, and Marion held on for the win.
Cooper and McFadden were both named to the All-Tourament team.
Lake City reached the championship game with a 52-29 opening game win over Carvers Bay and a 65-32 win over Andrews. Chelsey Holmes led Lake City scorers with 14 points again Andrews, and Lateese Cooper added 10. Shanice Cooper again scored a team-high 20 points against Andrews, while Sherina Singletary scored 16 and Lateese Cooper added 13.
