Aucs junior varsity boys basketball has special players

»  Comments | Post a Comment

I ventured over to Mullins this past week to check out a little JV action. I got there at the end of the girls game against Myrtle Beach, so I did not see much to talk about in terms of girls. I did catch the boys play and even though they came up on the losing end against a Seahawks squad that looks pretty good themselves, a few of the Mullins kids jumped right off the pages for me. Here is a little breakdown of what Aucs fans have to look forward to.

Kameron Graham: This kid would be as good a place to start as any. He is this close to becoming a major player in Mullins for a long time and quite possibly this year. He is a point guard type with all the tools to play this position with smarts, excitement and in a very skilled manner. He has the vision, so he can see the floor; he is quick on the defensive end with a knack for pilferage. I saw him play the passing lane and come up with a couple of steals in the manner of Walt Frazier. Those passes he stole had no chance of reaching their intended destination. Simply put, somebody needs to find this boy a uniform and quick. He is a ninth grader.

Alex Brown. Here is a guy who has amazingly flown under the radar. But this is Mullins and flying under the radar for a player with this type of potential lasts about two minutes. Ok, his two minutes are up. Brown is just an eight grader but if you see him you might not guess this. He is about 6’1” or 6’2” with a long lean body that has all the look of a future 6’5’ or 6’6” guy. He is quick and is a slasher with ups. The thing about him that got my attention is that stoic, ready for business look on his face. The kid is defensive minded with a shot blockers mentality. I say to all of you watch out this could be another one just like the other one. He is good.

Royal Purnell. He has all the physical attributes and the instincts both at the offense and defensive ends of the floor, a physical specimen who could be a small forward. If you look at his calves you can see that he can launch himself any time he wants to and with ease. He, like those above are going to one day form a defensive hornets nest around some people.

Rembert Timmons. Simply put he reminds me of the energizer commercial except that the bunny did not have this type of physicality the young guy brings to the court. He is everywhere on the floor either scoring rebounding or just plain defensive hustle. He has all the look of yet another player for the Aucs. He might not overwhelm you at first but you cannot take your eyes off of him when he is on the floor, he won’t let you. I love this kid. What he does gives me basketball laughter in the belly.
