Falcons take down Silver Foxes on Friday

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Darlington Falcons were too much for the Lamar Silver Foxes Friday night at Darlington as both the boys and the girls fell in the contests.

Girls
The girls’ varsity squad for Lamar couldn’t match up against Darlington, and it became one of those games where both sides took the opportunity to spread the playing time around.

Taking the most shots and making the most of them was Quanecia Allen for Lamar, who finished with 9 points. Shaquetta Martin added 4 points. But it was really about how many players Darlington could contribute as most everyone scored off the bench. In the end for Darlington, Jazz Green led with 20, while Shaquin Waiters added 13 and Kentesha Jenkins 8.

The final score was Darlington 75, Lamar 19.

Boys
Coming off an impressive win at Hartsville the night before, the undefeated Darlington Falcons looked a little sapped to start the game off against Lamar, but soon took the advantage of an active defense that created turnovers and scoring chances on the other end. Lamar showed off some ball skills and forced some action to the free throw line but couldn’t keep pace on offense.

Off a turnover, Falcon George Scott dished it to Torrey Wright under the basket at the 6-minute mark to make it 4-0. Second chance points under the boards would become key as well, as Jordan Scott would put it back for two to make it 6-0. Lamar Coach Michael Hamlin would call time when Darlington extended the lead to 8-0.

Devin Joint would force a turnover and Christian Miller would convert to make it 10-0 Darlington. Lamar’s Eric Daney would stop the bleeding with a jumper, but Scott would answer with a running shot to make it 12-2 with 4:30 to go. Lamar would make a statement with a three-pointer to close, and Daney would soon hit from the charity line, but disruptive defense from DHS would give them an 18-8 lead.

After more points for Darlington off turnovers, George Wilson would take a nice assist for Lamar and make it 22-10 with one minute left in the first period, which would close at 26-12 Darlington.

It was 31-16 after Wilson hit an easy lay-up with 5:15 to go, and K.J. Hamilton would dump it to Daney to make it 34-18, but the Falcons would start to press on defense, which made matters worse for Lamar’s offense. It was 51-23 at halftime with the game basically decided. The game would finish with Darlington on top 92-67.

Leading scorers for Lamar were George Wilson with 13, Daney with 11 and Jabri Johnson with 10. For Darlington, Elijah Byrd led with 15 points while Jordan Scott had 13.
