Friday's loss 18-6 loss to Dillon Christian provided a glimpse of bright spots for Pee Dee Academy.
The Warriors earned recognition with size and experience on a loaded team.
However, an under-sized and very game Pee Dee squad slowed the game and took advantage of the rainy weather condition.
The Warriors scored eight minutes into the game with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Stephen Johnson to Jamel Williams on fourth down. Dillon Christian took a 6-0 lead.
Early in the second quarter, the Warriors struck again. Star running back pick-up, Ray Thomas rushed up the gut 31yards into the end zone for another score and a 12-0 lead.
The Golden Eagles responded two minutes later. With the ball on their own 39-yard line, Will Daniels floated a pass to the sideline in the hands of Kevin Driggers the catch.
After hauling in the pass, Driggers took off down the sideline. And, he would not stop until he scored 61 yards later.
The Golden Eagles had their chances to get even closer but the Warrior defense stifled them every time.
A late turnover in the first half put the Warriors back in scoring position. Johnson took advantage, scoring on a 1-yard plunge to increase the lead18-6 going into the locker room.
It was the final score of the game. A rain shower that blew through in the first half slowed substantially in the second. But, the heat and intensity of the hits and the action did not cool at all.
Just as Brian Davis did in the first half, Zack Small, Andrew Gunn and Matthew Snipes did in the second. All four would fall on loose balls left by Dillon, ending drives and keeping the Golden Eagles within striking distance into the final minutes.
Storm Page led Pee Dee in rushing with 34 yards followed by Bradley George with 17 yards.
Kevin Driggers came up big with the touchdown catch of 61 yards. That ended up being the only completion by Golden Eagles QB, Will Daniels, as the ground games were the story of the night.
Page averaged 14 yards per kick return on four tries and George had 33 yards per punt, with a long of 49.
Pee Dee's record is now even at 1-1 as they travel to Laurence Manning this Friday night for a scheduled 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
