FLORENCE — Senior midfielder Kyle Clinton scored a pair of first-half goals to help lead No. 22 FMU to a 4-1 non-conference win over St. Andrews.
FMU (2-0-0) extends its regular-season unbeaten streak to 14 matches, and gives coach Kevin Varnado a win in his first-ever match-up with his alma mater.
FMU will play at Anderson on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Clinton’s first score gave the Patriots a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. The sequence began when Jared Beauchamp dribbled to the middle of the field, laid the ball off to Chris Foltanski on the right side, where it was crossed to Clinton in the middle of the box, and the lanky midfielder one-touched the ball past the Knights’ goalkeeper.
Clinton’s second goal, and third of the season, came at the 31:47 mark when he knocked in the rebound of his own shot. St. Andrews goalkeeper William Williams stopped Clinton’s first attempt but could not control the ball.
Clinton has amassed 25 goals in 59 career matches.
Only 17 seconds later, Foltanski extended the advantage to 3-0 when he took a pass from Adrian Sikorski and scored on a 15-yard shot from the right side.
Senior midfielder Jarrod Hall scored St. Andrews’ goal in the 56th minute when he converted on a rebound shot. His first attempt, a header off a cross from Curtis Kiyabu, was stopped but not corralled by FMU junior goalkeeper Clark Richeson.
FMU responded only 37 seconds later when Sikorski scored off an assist from Justin Kibler.
Richeson registered two saves, while Williams made seven stops.
