Coker men upend Braves

»  Comments | Post a Comment

HARTSVILLE — Despite playing at a man disadvantage for the final 56 minutes of regulation, Coker used a pair of goals from Eric Stiefield and limited UNCP to just a trio of shots to post a victory over the Braves in the season opener for both squads.

Stiefield recorded the first shot for either side just more than eight minutes into the outing, and then scored the game’s first goal in the 22nd minute after redirecting a long pass from Enrique Barrientos, who assisted on both goals.

The Braves tied the game four minutes later.

The rest of the half would be consumed by fouls, including Marc Mergena’s yellow card at the 33:51 mark that was topped by a red card issued to Jason McCann with the clock still stopped.

Stiefield’s short-handed goal in the 54th minute would prove to be the difference.
