The head coach of the Gamecocks has released a statement about the weekend arrest of a Georgetown county product.
The release is brief: “We are disappointed in the actions of Clifton Geathers the other night. He has been suspended indefinitely from the team until all the facts come in.”
University law says that a player is automatically suspended after an arrest.
Geathers, who played at Carvers Bay, was charged with resisting arrest, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct around 3:10 a.m. at Club ICE in Columbia.
The Columbia Police Department says officers responded to the club and found Geathers fighting with club security. Geathers was reportedly using profanity and smelled of alcohol.
The junior is projected to start at defensive end. Last year, Geathers played in all 13 games, and had 29 tackles, including 17 solo.
Geathers older brother Robert plays for the Cincinnati Bengals, and his younger brother Kwame is a freshman at Georgia.
