WILMINGTON, N.C. – Devan Carroll and Nassim Berhouni each scored early in the first and second halves, respectively, as UNC Wilmington notched a 3-0 win over visiting Francis Marion in a men’s soccer exhibition match on Tuesday.

Carroll put UNCW in front with a goal at the 4:11 mark when he headed home a short cross from the foot of junior Allen Lomax. Lomax intercepted a clearing attempt and broke in towards the goal on the left side where he sent a short cross into the goalie box where Carroll redirected the feed.

Berhouni needed just 28 seconds into the second half to double UNCW’s lead at 2-0. Berhouni was able to take the ball from a FMU defender and tuck a shot from 12 yards out inside the left post for the goal.

Freshman Etienne Boulanger capped the scoring in the 54th minute when he headed home a rebound off the post on a shot by Carroll.

UNCW held a 7-4 lead in shots in the opening half and finished with a 10-shot lead, 17-7.

Junior Brock Duckworth made a pair of saves before making way for sophomore Brandon Miller, who collected one save in the second half as UNCW fashioned the shutout.

Clark Richeson made three saves in goal for FMU.

Justin Kibler had the Patriots best opportunity to score, but his attempt sailed over the cross bar in the 86th minute. Kibler had walked through the UNCW defense unmarked on a corner kick.

The Patriots open the regular season Aug. 27 with a match at Wingate.
