This past Friday after a long day at work I took a ride out to the football stadium at Mullins High School for the “Meet the Coaches” event sponsored by the Auctioneer booster club. It was a great opportunity to meet the players as well.
Football fans in Mullins appear intrigued by this team and are eager to get the season underway.
Head Coach Miles Aldridge has been shaking a lot of hands since his arrival and the change in offensive philosophy is a challenge welcomed by his players.
Aldridge has the Aucs preparing for the season with two scrimmages already under his belt and a jamboree at Lake View Thursday before the squad appears in another jamboree at Lake City.
“The first and second team are doing pretty well, we just want to add more depth,” Aldridge said.
The first and second teams were looking pretty good during a Saturday scrimmage with Latta. I have to give a ton of credit to the coaching staff also for how sharp most of the players are looking.
I can’t reveal the camp confidential until our prep football preview Aug. 19. However, I will say the Aucs defense will be fun to watch this season, thanks to solid defensive line and ferocious core of linebackers. Seniors Timmy Johnson and Keyan Rogers look as if they have reached another level, while Avery Grant, Antonio Anderson and quarterback B.J. Crawford appear to be in the best shape of their lives.
Overall, I’m proud how everyone has circled the wagon and are looking forward to a successful season.
The Auctioneer booster club has around 40 members, Susie Hill said. I want to give props to booster club members associated with not only the Aucs, but also Foxes, Warriors, Eagles and all the middle schools. I had no idea the amount of support they give.
“We have a team here at Mullins High School,” principal Ted Greene said, adding that Hill and Laura Fladger prepared the hotdogs for the event. Donations are given each week to help feed the players on game day.
Be sure to check out Mullins Thursday night at the Lake View jamboree. Mullins will play Latta at 7 p.m. Creek Bridge will take on Dillon Christian at 8 p.m. Lake View and Aynor meet in the headliner at 9p.m.
Ticket prices will be $6.
The Mullins athletic booster club supplied enough hot dogs for everyone to tackle during the "Meet the Coaches" event at Mullins High School this past Friday.
