Atlanta Brave catcher Brian McCann's trip back to Myrtle Beach was not a success. McCann is on the disabled list because of discomfort in his left eye. He spent two games playing for the Pelicans and trying to figure it out, but he still leaves the Beach with questions.
McCann went 2 for 3 on Thursday night with an RBI and a run scored on Wednesday night in a 4-1 Pelicans win over the Hillcats. He had a pair of hard-hit doubles, but after the game he said he was still having trouble seeing.
"I' tried the new contacts tonight, and at times I could see, and others it was blurry," McCann said. "We're just going to have to continue to try to figure things out."
Each half inning after he would have an at-bat, McCann would go to the clubhouse to talk to the team doctor to discuss his progress. McCann remained frustrated, despite improving from his first day at the plate when he went 0-3.
McCann had Lasik surgery last year and said immediately afterward that his vision was crystal clear. But now it seems he might need more surgery.
McCann spent the 2004 season playing for the Pelicans. He hit 16 home runs and drove in 66 RBI that season, and after the game said that year was one of the most important in terms of helping him get to Atlanta.
The three time all-star heads Thursday back to Atlanta for re-evaluation, and then expects to play a few games at Triple-A Gwinnett.
"This is the last thing I want to be doing," McCann added. "We have a great pitching staff, I just need to get this thing figured out before we get halfway through the season."
