HARTSVILLE — Mary Lee Giurintano’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh gave Queens College a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Coker on Sunday in the final of Conference Carolinas softball tournament at Byerly Park.
Queens advances to next month’s Southeast Regional tournament.
The loss ended a marathon day for the Cobras, who won three games including a 2-0 win over Queens, to advance to the final game.
Coker’s Haleigh Rogers was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, while Anna Oswald went 2-for-4.
Shelly Catlett took the loss going 6 1/3 innings allowing four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.
Catlett, Miranda Klees and Whitney Wallett were selected to the all-tournament team.
Chantel Dodge got the win in relief, tossing 3 2/3 innings, allowing just one run on two hits with three strikeouts.
Tournament MVP Kari Kmetic was 3-for-3 with two home runs, two RBI and two runs scored for the Royals. Keeya Turner also had three hits, including an RBI single in the seventh to tie the game at 3-3.
Coker 13, St. Andrews 7
The Cobras scored runs in five of seven innings in the victory.
The Cobras’ Sydney Greenwalt picked up the win in relief, allowing three runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Allie Bragg went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, while Klees, Oswald and Wallett all had three hits.
Shannon Mitchell had a home run and two RBI and Brittany Owens had two hits and two RBI.
Coker 3, Mount Olive 1
Catlett tossed a complete game with six strikeouts to get the Cobras to the championship game.
Owens, Rogers and Klees each ad an RBI with Owens coming on a solo homer.
Coker 2, Queens 0
Wallet’s two-run homer in the sixth was the difference.
Catlett tossed another complete game, allowing just four hits, while striking out seven.
Klees had three hits and Rogers had two.
