Spring is here and so is the intensity on the baseball diamond. While Pee Dee Academy has had a great share of newfound success on the varsity level, its junior varsity team has had an up and coming bunch that is ready to replicate and outdo that success.
Coach Rodney Rogers and assistant Lee Wilson assembled a team that consists of seventh through tenth graders and they have just completed a successful 7-3 season.
The wins were over some impressive competition, including perennial powers Williamsburg Academy in Kingstree and Carolina Academy in Lake City, as well as Florence Christian, Dillon Christian and Mullins-Marion Christian.
Leading the team on the hill were freshman Brian Davis and sophomore V.J. Pridgen. Davis also sees time in left field while Pridgen is a mainstay at third base. The other starter is freshman Josh Rogers, who also plays catcher. The team's other sophomore is Kevin Driggers, who spells Pridgen at third and also plays center field.
Nicholas Ammons is the team's other freshman. He and seventh grader Cole Richardson are the right fielders. Eighth graders include Colby Boileau, who sees time at first, and Bryant Wilson, who starts at second. William Webster also sees some time at second and at DH.
Rounding out the team are talented seventh graders Korey Thomas, who plays at shortstop and catcher, and Clay Martin, who is in center.
