Hartsville boys' track slips past Darlington

Pierson Singleton finished in third place in the long jump in Darlington Thursday afternoon with a jump of 21 feet and three inches.

Seven teams met at Darlington High School Thursday afternoon in prep track action.

For the boys' teams, Hartsville topped the other six teams.

The final team scores were: Hartsville, 152; Darlington, 142; Wilson, 93; Marlboro County, 60; Lee Central, 57; Lakewood, 56; and Timmonsville, 9.

For the girls' teams, the final team scores were: Darlington, 119.5; Wilson, 92; Lakewood, 83; Hartsville, 69; Marlboro County, 52.5; Lee Central, 42; and Timmonsville, 25.

Top finishers for the Red Fox boys were: Damien Dixon, first place, 110M high hurdles, third place, 100M, first place, 200M; Brad Freeman, first place, 1600M; Allen Ownley, second place, 3200M; Jake Moan, third place, 3200M; Cameron Evans, second place, high jump, second place, long jump; Pierson Singleton, third place, long jump. In addition, the 4 x 100 relay and 4 x 800M relay teams for the boys both notched a second-place finish.

Top finishers for Hartsville girls were: Jaclyn Warden, first place, 1600M; Olivia Crabtree, first place, 400M hurdles; Kristi Sansbury, third place, shot put, second place, discus. The Hartsville girls' 4 x 800M relay team finished in first place.

Head coach Kevin Kelley said the boys team had an outstanding performance. "The team did great," he said, "and we as coaches are very proud of their accomplishments to this point. Our focus is to set personal bests in each event, and most of the athletes did that."

Kelley said the girls' team is putting forth tremendous effort each week. "The girls are doing a great job this year," he said. "Most of them are also running, jumping or throwing their best times or distances as each meet goes by."

Both teams will take some time off for spring break and will return to action on Tuesday, April 21, when they travel to Florence for a meet at West Florence High School. The meet will begin at 5 p.m.
