There was no shortage of hits Tuesday night when the Hartsville Lady Foxes met the Sumter Lady Gamecocks on the softball diamond. Hartsville tallied 11 hits en route to a 10-3 win over its region foe.
Sumter struck first by scoring run in the top of the first inning, but Hartsville responded quickly. In the bottom of the first, Skylar Pate singled and later scored on a triple by Jordan Bizzell.
Next, Katie Parker hit into a fielder's choice that scored Bizzell, and Hartsville took a 2-1 lead.
The lead was short lived, however. Sumter managed another run in the top of the second to tie the game at 2.
The Lady Foxes broke the game open in the bottom of the second, though.
Hartsville scored three runs to take a 5-2 lead and never looked back.
Sumter managed another run in the fourth, but Hartsville piled on another five runs as they scattered hits throughout the lineup.
Bizzell led the Lady Foxes with a strong performance. She was 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs.
Hartsville head coach Bobby Sowell said the team had something to prove. "The girls came out tonight with a chip on there shoulders," Sowell said. "They felt that they had given Sumter a gift last time we played, and they were determined to settle the score. Tonight's victory was a total team effort. We had hits throughout the lineup. Our defense made the plays when they had to, and the focus of our pitchers was great."
The Lady Foxes' record improves to 8-3 on the season.
They will face Andrew Jackson tonight at 6:30 p.m. in Hartsville.
