Sophomore Leah Davison (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) turned in nine kills on 16 attempts with no errors for a .563 hitting percentage to lead visiting St. Andrews Presbyterian College to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-16) Conference Carolinas volleyball victory over host Coker College on Tuesday.
The Lady Knights hit .213 for the match helping snap a five-match losing streak improving to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in the conference. The Lady Cobras maintain a 2-11 overall ledger while remaining winless in the league at 0-4.
After Coker registered the first point of the match, Knights' freshman Heather Bolwerk (Appleton, Wis.) scored the next two points with a kill and an ace. St. Andrews never trailed for the rest of the first set and the Knights broke a 15-15 tie with the next six points to coast to a 25-18 win.
With the second set tied at 17-17, St. Andrews outraced the Cobras to the finish scoring eight of the last 13 points to take middle set 25-22. Sophomore Leah Davison (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) finished off the second with a kill as SAPC held a commanding 2-0 advantage in the match. Junior Galina Podolsky (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore Kelly Williams (Laurel, Md.) had a big second set knocking down six kills apiece.
St. Andrews got off to a fast start in the third set jumping out to an 8-1 advantage. The Knights offense kept rolling taking a double-digit lead early and cruising to the 25-16 win. Junior Jaime Hayes (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) ended the evening with a block.
Podolsky -- the reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the Week -- drilled a team-high 13 spikes while Williams reached double-digits with 10 kills.
Hayes tossed up 34 assists for the visitors while Hayes and Bolwerk each served up three aces for the Royal Blue and White. Defensively, freshman Erica Davis (Tulsa, Okla.) led the Knights with 13 digs and Bolwerk added six digs.
St. Andrews will play a pair of road Conference Carolinas matches this weekend when they travel to Limestone College (Gaffney, S.C.) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Converse College (Spartanburg, S.C.) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
