Hartsville runs away from Wilson

HARTSVILLE — The Hartsville Red Foxes put the Wilson Tigers in a hole they couldn’t dig out of in the first half en route to a 55-28 win on Friday night.

Five Foxes scored with Dre Scott’s three touchdowns leading the way.

Against a Wilson defense missing several players due to suspension, Hartsville scored on all but one of its drives in the first half to take a 41-6 halftime lead.

Hartsville’s offensive line opened huge holes for its running backs, and the success on the ground led the Foxes to only attempt three passes.

Wilson quarterback Richard Que and receiver Caleb Davis hooked up on two long scoring passes. The Tigers were unable to sustain any long drives, though, because of Hartsville’s pass rush that pressured Que often in the first half.

Que scrambled well out of the backfield, but Wilson was unable to establish Anthony Green in the running game.

Hartsville came out and executed and did the things they needed to do,” said Wilson coach Darryl Page. “We put ourselves in a hole that we couldn’t get out of. We’re taking a lot of pride in what we’re doing and hanging in there for our school and our situation.”

Hartsville coach Jeff Calabrese was impressed with his team.

“We worked hard this week, and those guys really did a heck of a job,” he said. “It’s something to build on next week.”

The Foxes will play at Myrtle Beach on Friday at 7:30 p.m., while Wilson will host Timmonsville.
