OGDEN, Utah — The American Indoor Football Association has awarded expansion franchises to two teams in Utah.
Ogden and Orem, Utah are the newest cities to be introduced to indoor football. The teams are approximately 80 miles apart and will compete next season.
The Ogden team will play its home games at the Golden Spike Arena, part of an event center complex that spans 150 acres. The arena seats approximately 6,000 fans for indoor football.
“Ogden is a great community and an excellent fit for the league,” AIFA co-founder John Morris said. “There’s a great fan base for football here, and the incredible business growth should help in developing corporate partnerships.”
The team will play its home games at th state-of-the-art McKay Center at Utah Valley University in Orem. The arena will hold approximately 7,500 for indoor football.
AIFA co-founder Michael Mink said the two franchise will make the league more competitive.
“I am convinced more than ever that Western expansion has been great for the AIFA,” he said. “This franchise will strengthen the league footprint in the West, and the rivalry between Ogden and Orem will be outstanding.
“In regards to further expansion, there’s still more to do.”
