The Carolina Academy Girls Varsity Tennis Team clinched the region championship with an impressive win over second place team Trinity Collegiate. Playing without Captain Ali Courtney, the lady bobcats were able to secure the win in singles with 5 wins in straight sets out of the total of 6 single matches. Captain Lauren Reddeck turned in the first win with an 8-0 winover Trinity's #1 player, Lauren Burner. Burner and Reddeck had battled it out in a very long, close match only 3 weeks earlier, with TCA's Reddick coming out of top 6-3, 6-4. Sonovia Bradshaw turned in the next win with an 8-1 victory over her opponent, Elizabeth Buyck, who had beaten Bradshaw in their one previous match. Taylor Osborne, playing in the #3 position in place of Ali Courtney, who was sidelined with a knee injury, secured the third victory with an 8-2 win over Anna Weller. Rebecca Weaver, playing in the #4 position, rolled over her opponent, Anna Lee Rhea, 8-3. Weaver and Rhea had played a much closer match in their one match earlier in the season. TCA's #5 player, Tori Osborne came up with a quick 8-2 win over her opponent, Becky Moore, to give the CA netters their first region championship of the twenty-first century. Playing in the #6 position, TCA's Haley Hancock, lost to Lindsay Zubel, 3-8. TCA's #7 Harula Paraschos lost to Phyllis Economy 4-8.
Having already secured the overall victory, and more importantly, the Region Championship, the lady bobcats went on to sweep all 3 doubles matches. Lauren Reddeck and Taylor Osborne teamed up to win a tough 8-5 match in the #1 position against Lauren Burner and Elizabeth Buyck. Sonovia Bradshaw and Tori Osborne won 8-0 against Anna Weller and Anna Lee Rhea in the #2 position, and Haley Hancock and Rebecca Weaver won 8-1 over Becky Moore and Lindsay Zubel in the #3 doubles spot.
TCA girls, currently undefeated with a record of 13 wins and no losses, have only one remaining regular season match against Marlboro Academy. Following regular season play, the lady bobcats will be competing in the SCISA state playoffs. TCA girls are coached by Jenny Johnson and Deb Osborne.
The Carolina Academy also beat Marlboro Academy 9-0 at Marlboro Academy and played Oct. 14. This match finished up there regular season.
