Speedway officials thank Dillon Fire & Rescue for services rendered

Make your plans to attend Dillon Motor Speedway on Oct. 19 for the 2008 season finale, the Seneca Fall Spectacular 300. There you’ll see if your favorite driver wins the 2008 points championship.
Grandstands will open at noon with racing beginning at 2 p.m. All local racing divisions including the Late Models, Seneca Super Trucks, Palmetto Auto Auction Chargers, NAPA Street Stocks, and Missy’s Four-Cylinders will compete with high hopes of becoming the 2008 DMS champion.

There is no racing this Saturday at the Speedway, but with crisp autumn air in the atmosphere, there was hot racing at the Speedway on Oct. 4, during "Missy’s Night at the Races.” No other entertainment could top the explosive excitement that occurred from the USAC Ford Focus Midgets, UCARs, Seneca Super Trucks, NAPA Street Stocks, and Palmetto Auto Auction Chargers. There was door-to-door drama, numerous cautions, and checkered flag wins that were long overdue for some racers.

The first green flag of “Missy’s Night at the Races” dropped to ignite the rocket-powered USAC Ford Focus Midgets. These non-winged sprint cars soared around track with outstanding speed and drivers with hopes of taking the checkered flag win at the “Premiere Short Track of the Southeast.” Mike Mohelski from Frederick, Maryland, dominated Missy’s Night and grasped his second win at Dillon Motor Speedway. Brad Noffsinger finished in a strong second place with Eric Coomes ending his night in third place.

The Palmetto Auto Auction Chargers were the next division of racers to encompass Dillon Motor Speedway. As this group made their way around the track, the temperature increased and intense drama could be felt throughout the air. An exciting finish occurred with a win that was long overdue. Bobby June in his #13 car charged ahead of the rest of the field to take home the first place victory. Over the last few weeks, June has grown consistently more and more competitive. Bozie Lane finished in a close second place with Mike Watts, Tyler English, and Anthony Adams rounding out the “top five.”

Three racers were also disqualified due to unsportsmanlike conduct on the race track.

The UCARs returned to Dillon Motor Speedway to compete in a championship battle during “Missy’s Night at the Races.” Two heat races were implemented to determine the starting position of the racers during the championship race. During the heat race, Chris Wheeler flipped his UCAR on to its roof while racing down the front stretch. Luckily, he was not injured. The actual championship race was just as exciting with the winner, Jason Salmons, crossing the finish line backwards. As Salmons and second place finisher, Robert Arch, rounded turn 4, they collided causing Salmons to spin and take his victory in a backwards position. Robert Arch, Randy Prillman, Renno Marchetti, and Albert Lamont completed the “top five.”

Local racing returned to the track with the sizzling, NAPA Street Stocks. Another overdue win occurred when Chad Lockamy cruised his “Lead-Sled” into Victory Lane. It was indeed a rubber-slinging battle to the finish with lead changes occurring between Lockamy and second place finisher, Chris Peele of B&C Motorsports. Barry Flowers finished in a solid third place. Mike Cadell and Terry Lamont ended in fourth and fifth places respectively.

Finally, the Seneca Super Trucks battled against each other ferociously to seize the checkered flag of “Missy’s Night at the Races.” Hal Goodson reclaimed victory of the Seneca Super Trucks with another dominating performance. Archie Adams, Jr. competed with a hard-charging performance to finish in second place with daredevil, Justin Hicks, zooming across the finish line to grasp third place.
Joe Heigl ended his evening in a strong fourth place with Anthony Adams taking home a competitive fifth place finish.

For those of you who are unaware, this past week was dedicated by our nation as “Fire Safety and Prevention Week.”

Dillon Motor Speedway expresses its sincerest gratitude to Dillon Fire and Rescue. This group of outstanding safety officials sends a few of their volunteers to DMS on Saturday nights who in turn donate their time and lives to ensure the safety of all race teams, race fans, and DMS workers. They are vital to the success and progress of Dillon Motor Speedway and the surrounding community. Dillon County is blessed for their leadership. It is truly a pleasure working with these individuals.
