Ten weeks of high school football can go by pretty quickly. After weeks of conditioning in the summer heat, the season wraps up in the mist of cold brutal weather, and in this year’s case, at least four weeks of rain.
I give a standing ovation to all the players that remained committed to excellence during the prep football season. The Creek Bridge Warriors improved, averaging 17 points a game, remaining competitive; The Pee Dee Academy Golden Eagles replaced a number of stars with a talented group of freshman and sophomores who should help the program remain in good shape in the future; The Mullins Auctioneers and Marion Swamp Foxes increased the stakes in their annual rivalry game with the Tobacco Bowl trophy and region standings on the line.
The Aucs will have to come together on all fronts, but the young team is slowly and surely rebuilding the program with stability on the depth chart.
Meanwhile, the Foxes are in great shape with talented JV call-ups that won a region title and backfield that remains loaded.
This year’s Team Diamond group features a heavyweight defense and maybe the best special teams group ever assembled. Without a doubt, you know the offense is high powered.
