LEXINGTON — The Johnsonville volleyball couldn’t get over the hump again.
Playing in their 10th straight Class A state title match, the Flashes came up short after 25-21, 25-13 and 25-13 defeat to Landrum on Saturday at White Knoll High School.
It was Johnsonville’s ninth straight state title loss and third in a row to Landrum. The Flashes’ only state title in this stretch came in 1999.
Johnsonville finishes the season at 16-5.

South’s Humphries
sets school mark
COLUMBIA — South
Florence’s Matt Humphries finished fourth in the Class 4A state cross country state championships at Clemson-Sandhills Research Center.
The junior set a 25-year old school record by running a 16:21, two seconds better than the previous mark.
“Matt has really been working hard since last year to break the record,” Bruins coach Kenny Gray said. “He barely missed the record at the (Region 6-4A) meet. He really wanted it today.”
In other 4A action, Hartsville’s Jaclyn Warden ran a 20:44:97 to finish in 44th place. Darlington’s Jessica Hatchell finished 77th in the Class 3A girls race. Teammate Shaneckqua Henry was the top local finisher with a time of 23:18.
Darlington’s Tyler Cooke placed 103rd in the Class 3A boys race, while Marion’s Keenan Johnson finished 88th in Class 2A boys action.
Mullins Daniella Edwards placed 103rd in the Class 1A/2A girls race, and Green Sea-Floyds’ Anthony Millington and Daniel Strickland finished 32nd and 36th in the Class A boys race, respectively.
