FLORENCE — The West Florence Knights have won two games in a row, and without the help of one of their best offensive lineman.
Duke commitment John Coleman has missed the last two games with a strained PCL, an injury he suffered during practice drills.
But Coleman will not face surgery, West coach Trey Woodberry said, and might be back in time for Friday’s game at South Florence.
“He’s going to the doctor later on this week and we’ll have to see after that,” Woodberry said.
“He’s probably 50-50 for the South game, but we should have him back in time for the playoffs.”
Basil Owens has stepped in for Coleman and done a good job, Woodberry said.
The Knights have had two of the most productive offensive weeks, scoring a combined 95 points against Hartsville and Carolina Forest.
Perfect start
West Florence junior varsity quarterback Andrew Stewart was one of five Knights QBs who had playing time last week against Carolina Forest.
And on his first varsity pass, Stewart found Ty Briggs for a 50-yard score in the third quarter.
“It’s always good to get those kids in there and help build some confidence,” Woodberry said.
Players of the week
n Timmonsville running back Antonio McAllister rushed 23 times for 172 and four touchdowns to help the Whirlwinds snap a 14-game losing streak to Lamar to earn offensive player of the week.
n Cheraw linebacker Kenyatta Gary registered 20 total tackles, one for a loss, and two sacks in the Braves’ region championship-clinching win against Dillon to earn defensive player of the week.
