Senior Shavonne Seymore had a great year with the Lady Foxes during the 2007-08 season.
She added to that season Wednesday by accepting a full scholarship to play at Bevill State Community College in Fayette, Ala.
Seymore said she chose Bevill State because of the strength of the program and the size of the school. She wanted to attend a smaller school.
She will major in pharmacy at the school.
Seymore cited her friends and the volleyball and basketball teams as things she would surely miss next year. “It was fun while I was here,” she said. “I’m going to miss it.”
The senior said she feels prepared by coach Pat Hewitt’s efforts. “She also had us on task and focusing on school work. We put education first and basketball second, so I’m very thankful for that.”
“I’m going to miss her leadership,” Hewitt said. “She is the stabilizing force on the team. She and Borley [Quaye] were great mentors. They demanded excellence by giving excellence. More importantly, I am going to miss Shavonne as a person. I’ve been in her life for the last four years, and it has been a lot of fun.”
Hewitt believes Seymore can dominate at the next level and believes she hasn’t met her full potential yet.
Seymore’s grandmother, Rebecca Phillips, said she is just going to miss the girl. Both Seymore’s mother and grandmother said Shavonne will be missed, but she will only be a phone call away.”
“I’m just proud of my time as a Lady Fox,” Seymore said.
“Once a Lady Fox, always a Lady Fox,” Hewitt added.
