RedWolves rained out, open season at home

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Florence RedWolves will have to wait one more day to begin their season.

Florence’s game Wednesday at Asheboro was rained out. The game will not be made up because it isn’t a divisional game.

The RedWolves will get to start the season tonight at home against Columbia at 7:30.

“We were looking forward to getting out there and up there and getting after it,” first-year Florence coach Wes Davis said. “But now, at least we get to open up in front of our fans.”

Davis said Steve Grife will get the start for Florence tonight. Grife led Mercyhurst (Pa.), a Division II school, with a 6-5 record and 2.50 ERA in 11 starts this season. He struck 78 and walked 19 in 68 1/3 innings.

“He had a phenomenal year at Mercyhurst and is an intense competitor,” Davis said.

“We are excited to have him and look forward to him lighting the radar gun at about 92 or 93 mph.”
