Francis Marion University pitcher and member of the Mullins varsity baseball 2000 Class 2A state champs Dusty Floyd will be organizing a youth baseball camp at Mullins High School May 31.
The camp is open for kids ages 7 through 16 with a $15 fee. Participants will practice alongside Patriot baseball players, catcher Jared Barkdoll and shortstop Jason Weaver.
The field will be set-up with six different drill stations. This will be the second baseball camp featuring Floyd who will be there for a few simple reasons.
"The love for the game and wanting the kids to learn the fundamentals at an early age," he said, adding that he hopes it'll lead to the same opportunities for them.
Floyd is a four-year letterman with the FMU baseball team.
According to the school's 2008 media guide, the right hand pitcher entered the season undefeated in 11 career decisions. Floyd had the team's lowest earned run average in 2006.
The Social Science major has been recognized on the PBC Honor Roll and Swamp Fox Athletic Academic Honor Roll multiple times during his career and is a member of the Campus Outreach Organization.
His Patriot team missed out being selected to the NCAA tournament this season, despite a top 30 ranking and third place finish in conference play. Their overall record was 34-20. The Patriots have advanced to the NCAA Tournament in three of the past six seasons, and have won at least 34 games in each of the last four seasons.
During his run as a varsity baseball and basketball star at MHS, Floyd was awarded All-State, All-Region, and Team MVP honors.
His father Alan Floyd is a member of the Francis Marion University Athletic Hall of Fame as a dynamic basketball player. He once held the school's all-time scoring record, but remains the school's all-time leading rebounder.
The camp activities begin at 9 a.m. and end at noon.
