Watson Stadium was not built to host a baseball regional. So this week Coastal is trying to work around that fact. The university grounds staff is adding seating, implementing a new press box, moving bullpens and constructing more concession stands to help get the stadium ready for its first ever regional.
The staff has added five sets of bleachers that each can hold about 250 fans. There is more portable seating on the way, and when all is said and done, the stadium should hold close to 3,000 people. This would almost triple Watson Stadium's usual capacity.
CCU is pushing local fans to eat the tickets up quickly. Each school in the regional (East Carolina, Alabama and Columbia) get 200 tickets, then the rest are sold at the stadium box office. The university is trying to pressure local fans to buy the tickets before fans of the others schools come into town for the weekend.
There is a different vibe amongst the Chant players this year approaching the regional then last season. Many of the players said that last year's regional at BB&T Coastal Field did not feel like they were playing at home. Now with the regional staying in Conway, CCU knows they are the REAL favorite to win, and actually feel like it.
