DARLINGTON — Many rich traditions have been formed at Darlington High School since its inception in 1996.
In an effort to honor those traditions and those to come, the Darlington High School Athletic Booster Club is founding the Legacy Walkway Brick Campaign.
Supporters and alumni of Darlington, Mayo, Rosenwald and St. John’s high schools can leave a lasting memory of those schools at the new Darlington High School stadium.
The entrance walkways and patios formed by these bricks will serve as a reminder of the past while paving the way to a future of Darlington High School athletics.
Purchasers of the Legacy Walkway bricks will be able to create their own unique memories by adding their school mascot, jersey number and/or a logo of the school activity in which they participated. Three lines of text can be etched on the brick along with up to two logos.
“These bricks make a perfect and lasting gift,” said Dean Sigmon, chairman of the Legacy Walkway campaign. “They can honor athletes of the past, a special alumnus, or loved one who attended any of these high schools.”
The process used to personalize the bricks is a high-power laser beam that selectively melts portions of the brick to yield a high contrast, hard glass mark that resists fading, cracking, or discoloration for the life of the brick.
The campaign will be held annually with deadlines to ensure the ability to purchase, receive and install the bricks before the first football game.
Order forms for the Legacy Walkway can be downloaded from the Darlington Chamber of Commerce’s Web site, www.darlingtonchamber.net.
They are also available in Darlington at the Chamber, Joe’s Grill, Leo’s Wings and Patricia’s Gift Shop. They can be picked up in Society Hill at Funderburk Insurance Co., Nettles’ Tire and Auto and Palmetto Furniture Co.
Bricks are $100 each with three lines of information without logos; $125 each with three lines of information and one logo; and $150 each with three lines of information and two logos. Bricks are priced at a special value for the first year of the campaign.
To ensure that new bricks are in place before the first Darlington High home football game in September, orders for bricks can be accepted no later than June 20. Opportunities to order the commemorative bricks will be taken throughout the year with an annual deadline.
