FLORENCE — Florence began the Post 1 Preseason Invitational tournament with a leadoff homer from Keith Branco in the bottom of the first.
And Patrick Mincey finished the game with a homer, a walk-off, two-out solo shot as Florence defeated Goose Creek 3-2 on Friday at South Florence High School.
“We knew going in Goose Creek had an excellent team,” Florence coach Derick Urquhart said. “They won their league last year and brought everyone back. It was a really good matchup for the opening game.”
Post 1 starter Andrew Turner pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed one earned run on three hits while striking out five. Long came in during the sixth inning to pitch Post 1 out of jam.

FLORENCE — Elliott Braxton drove in three runs as Lake City used a four-run fourth inning en route to a win against Cheraw.
Jessie Matthews picked up the win for Post 73 while Ryan Fedkenhaur got the save.

FLORENCE — Conway’s Jeff Caskey walked in the eighth inning, went all the way to third on a wild pitch, and came home with the game-winning run after the Georgetown catcher threw the ball away trying to get him at third.
