Two softball teams from the Pee Dee punched their tickets to the state finals on Friday.
The Lake View Wild Gators will make their second consecutive appearance in the the Class A state softball after defeating East Clarendon 4-1 in the lower state finals.
Also for the second straight year, the Wild Gators have won six straight in advancing.
Leigh Ann Shelley hit a second-inning home run and allowed only four hits in her complete-game effort.
Avonlea Cooke was 2-for-3, with a run for the Wild Gators and Amber Suggs went 2-for-3. Taylor Sanderson also drove in a run for Lake View.
Lake View Coach Chad Huggins acknowledged the advantage of having been through the state playoffs before.
“With going to the playoffs just last year, I feel that that experience will help us, but we know we will have to play our best whoever our opponent may be,” Huggins said.
Lake View will face Chesterfield. McBee took the first game from the Rams and Chesterfield came back to win the second.
Also advancing to the state championship series for the second time in the last three seasons was Darlington softball.
The Falcons defeated Midland Valley 8-5 in the first game and got a Katherine Gainey RBI single in the fifth inning of the second game to defeat the Mustangs 1-0.
Darlington will host the winner of the Riverside/JL Mann game on Monday.
In other scores, South Florence softball lost to Stratford 6-1 to end the Bruins’ two-year run as Class 4A state champions.
Cheraw softball took game one against Hanahan, but was trailing late in game two. A final for that series was not available at press time.
