The sports scene might have experienced a bit of a cool down, with spring break arriving. However, this past week plenty of games were on tap, and the quest for region championships are heating up.

The Swamp Fox baseball team hammered Carvers Bay 13-1 early, thanks to a three run “jack” from Johnathan Elliott. The Foxes scored 12 of those runs in the third inning. Russ White earned the victory with eight strikeouts.

Ross White followed his brother’s pitching performance with a gem of his own, striking out 13 batters in a five inning no hitter against Kingstree.

Marion won by a score of 12-5. Jarrott Hooks also went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored three runs. Michael Godbold went 3-for-3 and also scored three runs.

The Lady Golden Eagles lost a close game to Carolina by a score of 6-4.

Coach Wes Daniels’ young squad returned with a 6-4 win over Thomas Sumter in their next game.

Christen Bucy got the victory on the mound, along with run support in the fifth inning to the tune of five runs. Daleigh Huggins was a perfect 3-3, while Alex Powers and Summer Collins both added RBI’s.

The Pee Dee Academy varsity baseball team won a close 7-5 game against Carolina after being down five runs. Coming into the game as a relief pitcher, Dennis Moore “mowed” through batters for seven strikeouts and also went yard with a two run homer. Storm Page also added a RBI to the cause.

Mullins and Marion hit the hardcourt this past week in tennis action, with the Aucs getting the victories. Robert Floyd was able to win a singles match against Zi Huang in straight sets. Floyd and Cory Pulley also earned a victory in a doubles match, along with Marcus Howard and Darian Ceo.

Facing off for the second time in one week, Floyd and Pulley, along with Howard and Ceo were able to secure wins by winning the doubles matches. C.J. Moody managed to aid his squad with singles match victory.

The Lady Foxes softball team suffered a tough loss on the road against Dillon 3-1. Ahead by a single run from the second inning to the bottom of the seventh, Megan Lee launched a two-run walkoff homer for the victory.

Lady Foxes pitcher Daniel Spivey was hot on the mound through seven innings, striking out 11 batters, and also getting three hits in a defensive battle.

Closing out the week, the Mullins varsity baseball team defeated Green Sea Floyds at home.

Creek Bridge took on Hannah Pamplico in a double header.

The Foxes baseball team closed out with arguably their biggest win in the early part of the season, defeating Dillon on the road by a score of 3-1 in nine innings. It took a two-run homer from catcher Martin Gasque in the ninth inning to propel Marion to victory,  handing the Wildcats their first region loss.

Pitcher Jarrott Hooks showed why he could be called an “Ace,” tossing a complete game with his strong arm and striking out 14 batters with just one walk and six hits. Sam Maddox went 2-for-4 at the plate.
