Marion Swamp Foxes: First year head coach Tony Boyer has been held in high regard, after building a winning program at Loris before becoming the Foxes skipper.
The confidence boost, along with hard work during the offseason has Marion looking to compete for a region 7-AA championship. “I’ve got one of the hardest working groups I’ve ever had,” Boyer said. Senior pitcher Jarrott Hooks is the ace, winning his first two outings in Waccamaw’s Coastal Invitational to open the season. Senior left-handed power hitter Aaron Taylor and centerfielder Micheal Godbold highlight a loaded group with brothers Ross and Russ White, along with catcher Martin Gasque.
Mullins Auctioneers: “We have a good group of guys that have been working hard,” Head Coach Hal Lambert said. The returning players include: Dustin King, Tony Smith, Johnathan Elliott, Seqwan McFarland, Dylan Stevens, Seth Allen.
“Our hope for this year is to make the playoffs. We hope to be more competitive and not beat ourselves. Our strength would be experience. Although the guys have not experienced a lot of success, seven of our starters have at least three years of varsity experience.
Creek Bridge: Coach Dana Fall works toward building the young program. “The team has showed much improvement from the previous season ... you will never find a group of kids that work harder and never give up no matter the score,” he said, adding that five players return. Fall would like to see a youth baseball program in the area.
Pee Dee Academy: Coach Hugh Collins’s team finished second in the region last season, but will get a boost this year with a four-man pitching rotation. Seniors Jimmy Sanders and Dennis Moore lead the group. Collins says defense is the strength of the squad, which won a 13-3 opener this past week against Trinity Collegiate.
