After riding their second four game losing streak of the season the Pelicans snapped out of it with a 12-6 win over Potomac. Myrtle Beach spread seven runs through the sixth and seventh innings to win their only game of the three game set with the Nationals. Eric Campbell electrified the crowd early with a long home run into Land Shark Landing in the bottom of the first to give the Pelicans an early 1-0 lead.
Potomac catcher Brian Peacock matched Campbell with a solo homer of his own in the top of the third to knot the score at 1-1.
The Pelicans grabbed hold of the lead in the bottom of the third as Potomac starter Ross Detwiler lost control. Four walks in the inning, including two with the bases loaded allowed the Pelicans to take a 3-1 lead.
The topsy-turvy contest continued as the P-Nats tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Once again it was the long ball that produced the runs. Brian Finegan started the inning with a solo homer. Two batters later, Leonard Davis connected on a solo home run to tie the score at 3-3.
The Pelicans broke clear of Potomac in the bottom of the sixth. Gorkys Hernandez lead off the frame with a double. Following two walks to Cabrera and Campbell to load the bases, Brandon Hicks ripped a two RBI double down the left field line to give the Birds a 5-3 edge. Travis Jones padded the lead with a bounce out to third that scored Campbell. Concepcion Rodriguez then blasted a single up the middle to score Hicks to give the Pelicans a 7-3 advantage.
In the seventh, Eric Campbell launched his second home run of the night into Land Shark Landing with both Phillip Britton and Hernandez on the base paths to stretch the lead to 10-3. Campbell finished with four RBIs.
Phillip Britton added an exclamation point two-run blast in the bottom of the eighth.
