WILMINGTON, N.C. — Through the first 10 games of the season, the Florence RedWolves have been living off their pitching.
They got strong pitching from L.A. Owens on Wednesday night. But Florence’s bats woke up in support of Owens, pounding out a season-high 15 hits in a 13-4 beating of Wilmington.
“I think our guys have been doing well at the plate,” Florence coach Wes Davis said. “We’ve been doing a good job swinging the bats all season. They just started falling for us tonight.”
Every starter but one had at least one hit for Florence in the rout. Keon Graves garnered three hits and two RBI to lead the RedWolves (9-2).
Jared Barkdoll drove in three runs on two hits. Barrett Kleinknecht plated two runs on a pair of hits. Cody Stinger led the RedWolves with four RBI.
Andrew Guerra and Brett Walker combined to go 4-for-8 with six runs scored.
Owens (1-0) allowed an unearned run on four hits in seven innings for his first win of the season. The Dillon High and Florence-Darlington Tech standout finished with four strikeouts and one walk.
